How It Works

Get started in three simple steps

Download and install the APK on your Android device. Open the app and tap "Start Server" to begin hosting.

Ensure your device is connected to your local WiFi network. The app will display the server address (e.g., http://192.168.1.100:8080).

Open the displayed address in any web browser on your network. Browse, download, upload, and manage your files!

Installation

Direct APK Installation

  1. Download the APK file from the download button above
  2. Enable "Install from Unknown Sources" in your Android settings
  3. Open the downloaded APK file to install
  4. Grant necessary permissions when prompted

System Requirements

  • Android 8.0 (Oreo) or higher
  • WiFi connection for network access
  • Storage permission for file access

Getting Started

Starting the Server

  1. Open Remote File Explorer app
  2. Tap the "Start Server" button
  3. Note the server address displayed (e.g., http://192.168.1.100:8080)
  4. A persistent notification will appear indicating the server is running

Accessing Files

  1. Open a web browser on any device on your network
  2. Enter the server address shown in the app
  3. Browse your Android device's file system
  4. Use the web interface to manage files

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

Can't access server from browser:

  • Ensure both devices are on the same WiFi network
  • Check that the server is running (notification visible)
  • Verify you're using the correct IP address
  • Try disabling VPN if active

Files not visible:

  • Grant storage permissions in Android settings
  • Restart the app and server
  • Check if files are in device storage (not SD card)

Q: Is this safe to use?

A: Yes, the server only runs on your local network and is not accessible from the internet.

Q: Why no authentication?

A: This is the MVP version. Authentication will be added in future updates.

Q: Can I access from outside my network?

A: No, the server is designed for local network access only for security reasons.

Q: Does it work with SD cards?

A: Currently focused on internal storage. SD card support may be added in future versions.
